Storage & handling

How to store peptides

Heat, light and agitation degrade peptides far faster than time does. Here is how to store them before and after reconstitution.

Peptides degrade through heat, light and agitation far more than through time on a shelf. Storage is mostly about keeping those three under control.

Before reconstitution

Lyophilised powder is the stable form. It survives shipping at ambient temperature, which is why vials arrive without cold packs. For anything longer than transit, refrigerate at 2–8°C and keep vials in their packaging, out of light.

For long-term storage, freezing the powder is standard practice. Let the vial return to room temperature before adding water.

After reconstitution

Refrigerate, never freeze. Once a peptide is in solution, freeze-thaw cycles cause real degradation. A reconstituted vial belongs in the fridge at 2–8°C.

The practical limit on a reconstituted vial is usually the bacteriostatic water rather than the peptide, manufacturers typically state 28 days once the stopper is pierced.

Common questions

Do peptides need to be refrigerated before mixing?
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) vials are stable at room temperature for short periods, which is why they survive shipping. For anything beyond that, refrigerate at 2–8°C, away from light.
How should I store a vial after reconstitution?
Refrigerated at 2–8°C. Do not freeze a reconstituted vial, freeze-thaw cycles degrade peptides in solution.
Can I freeze the powder?
Lyophilised powder tolerates freezing well and that is how long-term stocks are typically held. Let it return to room temperature before adding water.
How long does a reconstituted vial last?
It depends on the compound and the storage conditions. Bacteriostatic water is preserved for about 28 days once pierced, which is generally the limiting factor.
Does light matter?
Yes. Keep vials in their box or otherwise out of direct light. Most degradation comes from heat and light rather than time alone.
My vial arrived warm, is it ruined?
Lyophilised powder is robust in transit and short periods at ambient temperature are expected. If anything looks visibly wrong, discoloured powder, a cracked vial, a lifted stopper, contact us before using it.
