The maths behind it
Three steps, and the calculator is just doing them for you:
Concentration. Peptide in the vial ÷ water added. A 10mg vial with
2ml of water is 5mg per ml.
Volume to draw. Your target amount ÷ concentration. 0.5mg at 5mg/ml
is 0.1ml.
Convert to units. Multiply millilitres by 100. 0.1ml is 10 units.
Adding more water does not reduce the peptide. A 10mg vial holds 10mg
whether you add 1ml or 5ml. More water simply spreads it through more liquid, so you draw a
larger volume for the same amount, which can make small measurements easier to read.

If your result won't fit
A 0.5ml syringe holds 50 units. If the calculator returns more than that, the measurement needs
more than one syringe. Reconstituting with less bacteriostatic water raises the concentration and
brings it back inside a single draw.
The opposite problem is a result so small it sits below the finest marking, under about 2 units
is hard to read accurately. More water lowers the concentration and spreads the same amount across
a larger, easier-to-measure volume.
Common questions
Does it matter how much water I add?
Only for convenience. It sets how much liquid you draw for a given amount of peptide, which
determines how easy that measurement is to read on the syringe.
Why does my vial say 10mg but the calculator shows mg per ml?
The vial label is the total quantity of peptide. Concentration is that total divided by the
liquid you added, and it is the number that matters once you are drawing from it.
Can I add more water later?
Adding water to a partly used vial changes the concentration of everything left in it, so
your earlier measurements no longer apply. Work it out again from the new total volume.
What syringes does this assume?
The 0.5ml, 50 unit insulin syringes Evra supplies. Units are universal across insulin
syringes, but a larger barrel holds more of them.
